Here we are doing a lot more than just replacing shingles.
The roof decking (plywood) was struggling & we knew it. However, we didn't expect to change 30 sheets of decking but we did.
We replaced the 3/8 sheets with 1/2", used the heavier 30lb felt (black paper underneath the shingles) for several good reasons, installed lots of new flashing, spent detailed time on the chimney since it's in the middle of the dwelling, reinforced the valleys to ensure no leaks, installed ridge vents for ample ventilation (= longer roof life), & finally the architectural shingles.
