Here we are in Lawrenceville doing what we do. The existing deck was struggling to say the least and we were fortunate to win the bid and rebuild. After we demo'd the old deck, we prepped the area to ensure a safe new structure. We used 6x6 posts (notched) with 2 2x10 beams for the deck to rest on. The upper deck was 12x14, the lower was 12x12. All the joists were 2x10's (although 2x8's are allowed, there's a noticeable feel between a 2x8 7 a 2x10 when walking on the deck). The undercarriage pictures emphasize the hardware we use to build a secure deck. We use Simpson Strong-Tie products (galvanized b/c the wood is chemically treated). The diamond shape pieces are hurricane reinforcements, the corner brackets prevent the edges from separating over time.
