JOHNS CREEK: We get calls from time to time about deck not passing home inspections. This particular deck had a nice looking railing system but the post were installed directly on top of the decking and secured only with nails. No way can nails hold the posts secured.
The new posts are on the side and held in place by two .5"x7" thru bolts(current code standards. The knee bracing is another code requirement.
Again, nice looking railing system, just flawed at the posts.
To make things worse the sellers just had the railing system installed and the deck stained.
Notice two posts at the corner...a code requirement but also a smart requirement because it makes all the difference in the world.
